The lens we bring to every city

Sim Eternal City is a method before it is any single city. Before we design anything, we read a city through four forces that are reshaping urban life everywhere. They are the same four wherever the city sits — coast, mountain, inland, continent — and together they are the framework.

The floating city of New York was an answer. The four forces are how we arrive at an answer for any city at all.

Four forces rewriting the city

The four forces rewriting the city: climate change, AI and robotics, longer lives, and city-states

01 — Climate change

The ground a city stands on is no longer fixed. Sea level, wildfire, drought and extreme heat are redrawing where a city can exist and how. A coastal city's response is not a mountain city's — which is exactly why the force, and not any single answer, belongs to the framework.

02 — AI & robotics

Work and production are being rewritten. In Sim Eternal City, humanoid robots are not tools but co-citizens, sharing the city's labor and daily life. The design question is how people and robot citizens divide roles and live side by side.

03 — Longer lives

As lifespans stretch, the population's center of gravity shifts. The longevity generation — us, as we live longer — is not a class to be cared for, but one that does real economic work. How that generation stays economically active reshapes a city's whole life cycle.

04 — City-states

Governance is moving down in scale. As large nation-states strain, the city becomes the unit that acts — the city-state. Who decides, who provides, and who belongs are questions a future city must answer at its own scale.

From four forces to a design table

The four forces are not a checklist; they are the columns of a table. Down the rows we place the elements people actually live inside — work, education, leisure, mobility, and more. Each cell is a question: how does this force reshape this part of the city?

We fill that table city by city, starting not from nothing but from each city's own history and people.

One framework, many cities

New York was the first case; its floating city was one answer to one coast. The framework is what carries to the next city — mountain, inland, continental — one city at a time. That is how Sim Eternal City moves from a single story to a way of reading, and designing, the future of any city.
